Director Taj Stansberry working with Kendrick Lamar on 'Money Trees' video
Ready to furnish his platinum-selling 2012 album good kid, m.A.A.d city with another video, Kendrick Lamar has been working with director Taj Stansberry on a concept for track ‘Money Trees’.
Stansberry- who has previously worked with Big Sean on ‘My Last’, and J-Lo (“the epitome of a perfectionist”) for ‘On the Floor’- spoke to Global Grind about his upcoming projects, which include a commission from K.Dot.
“Me and Kendrick have crossed paths a few times in L.A.,” said the director. “Something came into my e-mail from my agent, and she was like, “Would you be interested in working with Kendrick Lamar on ‘Money Trees’? ‘Money Trees’ was my favourite song on the album.”
Stansberry told GG that, following the shoot, he “left that set feeling accomplished” after a solid 12-hour working day. “I finally did something that I wanted to do. I was having so much fun.”
He said the video would “talk about who we are today,” suggesting his artistic vision might provide a grittier counterpoint to the irreverent funereal chic of ‘Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe.’ ”It’s not the end of the world in this video,” he said, “It’s actually the near future.”
Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city was perhaps the most critically acclaimed breakthrough rap album of 2012, and was this month certified platinum, having passed the 1 million sales mark.
