Echos Project Episode 3: Brendan Canning: Talking Soccer
With the Women’s World Cup kicking off in Canada on Saturday, with the host nation taking on China at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, it seemed appropriate to share the latest episode of the Echos Project, featuring Brendan Canning (Broken Social Scene/Cookie Duster/By Divine Right/ Len/ hHead …) talk about his love for the beautiful game.
Settling down in the Dog & Bear pub in Toronto Canning explains how he was drawn to the game as a child growing up in the appropriately named Ontario town of Ajax, the history of the game in Toronto and what he brings to the pick-up games he plays year round. The video also features an acoustic performance of ‘Lighthouse Returns’ from his latest album You Gots 2 Chill.
The Echos project’s Ryan Gassi remembers the shoot well. “The most memorable thing about shooting the interview was probably shooting him playing soccer and the amount of hustle he puts into the game. Also, as it was winter and they were playing indoors, when someone accidentally kicked the ball up to the second floor balcony, it was funny to watch the other guys pick Brendan up to boost him into the stands. I just wish I had the camera rolling for it.”
