Woodpecker Wooliams is a solo project from Brighton’s Gemma Williams – but with circuit-bent bass sounds and tightly regimented percussion, ‘Sparrow’ comes off less ‘introspective singer-songwriter’ and more ‘pissed off ghost stuck in an overheating drum machine’.
The track is taken from Williams’ new album The Bird School of Being Human, out 10 September on the ever-excellent Robot Elephant. She plays the following UK dates:
September 7th – London, album launch at The Vortex Jazz Bar with Eyes & No Eyes,
September 8th – Brighton, album launch show at St Andrews Church, Waterloo Street with K L O W K + special guests
September 12th – London, The Strongrooms
October 2nd – London, The Gallery Cafe
October 9th – Bristol, TBC.
