Watch: Spectral Park – Shells
Spectral Park continues the promotional trail for his eponymous debut full-length with an official clip for album highlight ‘Shells’.
Using a similar found footage technique found in recent single ‘Ornaments’, Luke Donovan – the brains behind Spectral Park’s acid-drenched psych wig-outs – explains his inspiration behind the video below.
I wasn’t conscious of a narrative until about half way through cutting the footage but it became about leaving routine behind and searching for something new, to fall in love i guess, whilst being haunted or emotionally anchored by visions of the past but drenched in hope for what’s to come. Coupled with the idea of the child as a metaphor for pure longing/needs…As opposed to the polluted desires and ridiculous preoccupations that adults develop and harbour after being thrown out in to the world too long.
The purity and curiosity that gets buried beneath all the bullshit but still exists somewhere in everybody. That narrative seemed to marry pretty well with the sentiment of the song and the lyrics. Not entirely sure about the sections with the Japanese guys dancing in animal suits…I guess those parts symbolise moments of insight or overwhelming drugged out bliss along the way.
Spectral Park is available now via Mexican Summer.
