When Montreal duo Solar Year charged How To Dress Well collaborator Jamie Harley with the task of creating a video for their track, ‘Magic Idea’, we’re sure even they didn’t expect such perfect symmetry between their celestial electronic sounds and the hypnotic visuals of the director’s end product.
Harley captures every euphoric facial expression in the languidly yo-yoing crowd in super slow motion as throbbing synths shimmer like fireworks on a backdrop of astral beats, deep bass rumbles and ghostly vocal sighs. Once in a while, two artists just seem to click and in ‘Magic Idea’, Solar Year and Harley have combined beautifully to create a minimalistic yet somehow otherworldly electro pop document.
