Fresh from a gruelling string of shows at Eurosonic which left both industry critics and fans alike fumbling for ways to describe their uniquely nocturnal vibe; Helsinki deep pop duo Phantom have unveiled the new video for ‘Kisses’, their bruising paean about a relationship pushed to breaking point.
Shot in their native city just before the Mercury plummeted and snow began to blanket the Finnish capital in late 2012; the video captures the song’s raw, splintering emotions better than our words could possibly convey. Distantly echoing synth loops morph into cerebral R&B beats as the track begins to unfurl, and Hanna Toivonen’s eerie siren song takes hold; we’re treated to some stunning shots of the expansive, unforgiving landscape below as her soulful tones soar skywards towards the heartbreaking climax. Lyrically bleak, but the tenderness of Toivonen’s vocal and the jawdropping scenery will keep you coming back to ‘Kisses’ again and again.
