Watch: Mt. Wolf – Shapeshift [Best Fit Premiere]
South London four-piece Mt. Wolf began quietly amassing followers from opposing ends of the genre spectrum thanks to the soul-searching electronic vibrations and otherworldly, folk-rooted melodies prevalent on their 2012 debut EP, Life Size Ghosts. Last week saw the quartet announce their next release Hypolight, out 8 April on Two Sisters Records. Now they’re making Monday that little bit less excruciating with a polished promo vid for one of the EP’s four ethereal tracks ‘Shapeshift’.
Shot in beautiful monochrome, the video favours austerity over embellishment but what Mt. Wolf shirk in terms of narrative and props, they more than make up for in forlorn reflection.
The track’s sullen percussive breaks, swirling layers of synth and vocalist Kate Sproule’s portentous tones are mirrored perfectly in the dreamy images. A refined production from one of the electro-soul movement’s standout acts.
