Watch: Junip – Your Life Your Call [Best Fit Premiere]
Well, the creepy high jinx just keep on coming with Scandifolksters Junip, whose new self-titled album arrives later on this month.
Hot on the heels of their recent rather sinister video for previous single ‘Line of Fire’, José González & co deliver one of the highlights of the record, ‘Your Life Your Call’. The promo for the song, premiered above, is essentially Part II of the story in ‘Line of Fire’ and, unsurprisingly, it is just as dark as its predecessor.
Director Mikel Cee Karlsson continues the tale of the couple from Part I and follows the sexual relationship between the wife and the long-haired rake of a boy, who looks like he could be a young version of Bob from Twin Peaks. The husband remains quite discernibly unhappy.
There’s a brilliant moment at 1:38, when our lady protagonist adjusts her bra to the sound of the beat of the track, resulting in an enjoyable breast dance. This is immediately followed by the boy seemingly indulging in self-gratification, only to be discovered to have been washing his wrist and nothing more. You feel a bit repulsed by these characters and, at the same time, you want to find out more about them.
With Junip’s forthcoming Village Underground gig selling out, a further show has recently been announced by the band. They’ll be hitting Shepherd’s Bush Empire in September. The new album is out on 22 April via City Slang
