Watch: Grandfather Birds – Spithope
Newcastle quartet Grandfather Birds have returned after a year long hiatus to debut a brand new track, ‘Spithope’ and some gorgeous, seasonal accompanying visuals.
Available as a free download via their Bandcamp, ‘Spithope’ builds on the ambient rock tendencies displayed on Huw Stephens-championed 2011 single, ‘Higher Bridges’ with reverb slurred guitar strokes, trickling keys and waspish snare whips proving the perfect compliment to vocalist Matt’s astral tones. The video, like the track itself, is documented from the perspective of someone caught by a snow drift and left lost in the woods.
Filmed on location in a forest by the Scottish border, Grandfather Birds have captured a starkly beautiful physical snapshot of the surprisingly perilous British countryside while invoking a sense of feverish detachment through their dreamy atmospherics.
