Watch: The Dø – The Calendar (Best Fit Session)
It’s the way that they seamlessly mix heady, spritely pop with sultry, striking sobriety. It’s how their boisterous and playful nature is harmonised by their softer, more tender side. And it’s the way that every performance of each of their songs transports this French-Finnish duo to a place and space to which only they have the key, ensuring that each melody guards a sense of secrecy and intricacy.
Those are just a few of the reasons why The Dø have become so admired back in their home country of France, where their debut album A Mouthful shot to number one in 2008 and where subsequent singles, tours and appearances did nothing to slow the momentum of this thoroughly charming, superbly quirky duo.
2011 saw the release of The Dø’s highly anticipated follow up album Both Ways Open Jaws, with which Dan Levy and Olivia Merilahti prove beyond question that they are worthy of all of the attention that they’ve commanded so far. A more candid and more adventurous effort than anything they’ve released before, the pair are now taking on the UK with a string of sold out London appearances under their belt, and complimentary whisperings to match.
To find out more about The Dø, take a look at our interview with them, but for now, enjoy seeing them do exactly what it is they do best in this exclusive session.
