Born in Niger but forced out in childhood by the events surrounding the Tuareg Rebellion, Bombino has since carved a reputation amongst the Tuareg community and the wider world.
Recorded in Morocco, his latest album Deran is sung entirely in Tamasheq, his native language, and marks Bombino's first album recorded in Africa in nearly a decade.
We met the Tuareg artist during the singular Sinsal Festival in Vigo, Spain last year, and recorded a sessions of "Matoumfa Tenesse".
Deran is out on 18 May - Pre-order and stream.
Bombino will support Queens of the Stone Age at Finsbury Park on 30 June. Full tour dates on his website.
