Stromae performs "Formidable" for The Line of Best Fit
29-year old Belgian-based Paul Van Haver - better known has Stromae - is a relative unknown here in the UK despite the fact that his last show fillled out London venue Koko and his next will be his his biggest show to date, at the three and a half thousand capacity Hammersmith Apollo, on 9 December.
He’s something of a wonder: The Guardian tagged the Brussels-born Flemish-Rwandan as a continental Morrissey (“Europe’s favourite misery muse”) and his brand of dissected and lyrically intense music sounds like Jaques Brel and MC Solaar got their hands on a copy of Garageband in some amazing alternate universe.
We met Stromae prior to his Koko appearance for a singularly incredible take of “Formidable”, a song that drops lines like “she’ll dump you like they always do”, watch that above.
You can catch Stromae later this moth playing the Sonic Stage at Glastonbury (29 June) or at his biggest show to date - the Hammersmith Apollo in London on 9 December.
