Watch: Porcelain Raft – The Way In (Best Fit Session)
The unique talent of Mauro Remiddi is unquestionable. Rising from the ashes of his first band Sunny Day Sets Fire, Remiddi assumed the mantle of Porcelain Raft and immediately set about establishing a fine set of credentials from the grassroots – via a set of standout single and EP releases with the likes of Transparent and Acéphale as well as gigs that showcased a developing talent and evolving sound.
With his debut Strange Weekend, that sound finally beds down and assures itself both qualitatively and transcendentally as a product of its (and our) time. Proving a personal knack for adaptation as well as the versatility of his songs, it came as no surprise that Remiddi would face the challenge of a church organ head on and pull something of a rabbit from the musical hat for his Best Fit Session.
This rendition of ‘The Way In’, filmed in North London’s Union Chapel, drips with cool intimacy and jaw dropping accomplishment. We haven’t been blown away so much with one of our own sessions in quite some time.
PR’s debut Strange Weekend is out now on Secretly Canadian. You can catch him live later this month at The Lexington in London on 26 March.
