Watch: Cold Specks – Lay Me Down (Best Fit Session)
Normally when we do these Best Fit sessions, we take a band out to an art gallery, or a trendy Shoreditch hotspot, or occasionally the banks of the River Thames. But sometimes, we like to do the exact opposite and strip the backdrop away completely.
Canada’s Cold Specks is a musical vehicle of singer-songwriter Al Spx, which is the kind of name that resembles someone trying to shorten their Twitter pseudonym to the rigid restraints given.
In this similar vein, we decided to strip Cold Specks, frequently backed by strings, piano and percusstion, to the very bare bones – sticking Spx in the corner of a fairly modest sized room, handing her an acoustic guitar and letting her rather enigmatic music do all the talking.
