THE NONE deliver seismic declarations with latest cut "On Automatic"
Having honed their sound for months playing with the likes of Metz and Mannequin Pussy, THE NONE deliver indelible frenzy with "On Automatic"
New noise rock band on the scene, THE NONE, have already made waves after a string of performances in 2024. To be more exact, it has been the visceral spume of their live energy that has demanded this attention, backed by the throttle of amps on full blast and explosive, heavily percussive instrumentation. Latest single "On Automatic" throws the listener into this world with an undeniable immediacy.
It would be a fair assumption that their stamina and gallant sound represents a band heady with passion starting out in the scene, but in truth, THE NONE is comprised of lifelong musicians. Bassist Gordon Moakes (Bloc Party, Young Legionnaire), vocalist Kai Whyte (Blue Ruth, Youth Man), guitarist Jim Beck (Cassels) and drummer Chris Francombe (Frauds) have pushed heads together to create their own movement, and it's one that revels in the rawness of their creation. As well as tackling topics including poverty and substance misuse with an unabashed candour, their music is all recorded live and released exclusively on Bandcamp.
Speaking of their debut EP, MATTER, released in August last year, guitarist Beck recalls “I think we’d only done around three or four practices with Kai [Whyte]. It was pretty seat-of-the-pants stuff." Now distilling their gig go-go juice into a follow-up project, CARE, set to drop on February 14th, he continues, "This time we had a much clearer idea of who we are as a band, and how we wanted everything to sound.”
"There was some uncertainty when we started writing 'On Automatic'. We thought the main riff might be a bit too 'jock-rock'. Thankfully Gordon [Moakes] and Chris [Francombe] came up with some interesting parts which changed the feel and helped build tension. Once Kai added their vocals it quickly became one of our favourites to play live." Indeed, THE NONE are set to continue their form at a slew of new UK dates in 2025, including a headline show at Hackney's Oslo. It's difficult to bottle such a live force, but "On Automatic" is a great entry-point into the band's frenetic vision.
"On Automatic" is out now, with CARE set for release on 14 February 2025. Find THE NONE on Instagram.
