Tempest sizzles in sultry new summer single “The Ranch”

Featuring fellow rising hip-hop star Amindi, Tempest’s latest track is a sexy, tongue-cheek tale that captures the essence of summer lust. Framed by bouncy, West Coast beats, this track proves why Tempest is being considered a powerful new voice in R&B.

Growing up between the heart of Suburbia and the inner-city in Long Beach, California, alternative R&B artist Tempest was exposed to a broad foundation of influences in her youth that eventually came to influence her own vibrant sound. Her father was a DJ in the Bronx, and eventually passed down his love of crate digging to her, and her Jamaican mother a music aficionado who introduced her to dancehall rhythms. After joining a music production program in high school, and later taking on an internship at the GRAMMY museum, it’s clear why Tempest’s sound is so distinctively hers. She has been immersed in the world of music since birth.

The rising hip-hop artist cites Tyler, The Creator, Frank Ocean, and Rihanna as some of her influences, and just like these artists, Tempest has a truly unique style and voice. She’s been putting out music since 2014, spent her downtime in 2020 refining her sound, and started putting out powerful new singles a short time after. Alongside this, she has DJ'd at sold-out venues across LA (where fans eventually came to dub her the “people’s princess”), and today she’s releasing a brand-new single ahead of her debut EP.

Called “The Ranch”, Tempest’s latest offering is a fun summer track with a nostalgic, funky ‘90s hip-hop sound and upbeat tempo. While it’s certainly a sultry, sexy track, don’t get it twisted... “The Ranch” is definitely not a love song. It’s one to play while going for a ride in the car on a hot summer afternoon. Windows down, kitten heels and big sunglasses on, headed down a city street to the sneaky link’s house. Not every person is the one, and this particular song is an ode to those who help us kill some time. Tempest says it best herself in the lyrics, “that’s not my baby and I’m not his either/it’s just a pain reliever.” The sentiment is echoed later in the song by Amindi. The accompanying music video for “The Ranch”, which was filmed at an actual stable in Los Angeles, perfectly matches the playfulness of the track.

Tempest’s new single is just one of the many powerful, sexy, and smooth productions she’s put out. (And while this is a particularly fun track, the artist has also been hailed for some of her other songs which feature more intimate lyrics.) So, if you’re new to the people’s princess, why not take a trip to “The Ranch” first and see what you think? Giddyup.

"The Ranch" is out now. Find Amindi and Tempest on Instagram.
