Stella Rose offers a folk-like serenade in her new single “Angel”
NYC newcomer Stella Rose proves herself a daring poet with a fabulous voice and cinematic sensibilities in her second single to date.
Having released her debut "Muddled Man" little under over two months ago, NYC-based singer, poet and musician Stella Rose is already demonstrating exceptional versatility and vision. Her new song “Angel has a powerful cinematic quality, even sans the accompanying video.
"Angel" has the feel of a moody Tarantino track, with its vibrato guitar underpinning the singer’s bluesy belting. In the accompanying video, the singer is clothed as a seraphim gliding through otherworldly pastel clouds. But Stella Rose’s voice isn’t a meek soprano; this woman’s voice has real power and passion.
The video’s director Primordialfreaks says, “The inspiration was mainly the song itself, the dark but also light quality. I think we set out to capture the heartbreak of ‘Angel’. It’s a sad but also triumphant song, like a celebration of loss and loneliness and how the most difficult things can make life more pure in a strange sort of way.”
Stella Rose’s debut single "Muddled Man" was produced by Yves Rothman (Yves Tumor, Girlpool) and contains a David Lynch-ian darkness, where the singer seems trapped in a Las Vegas purgatory of slot machines and strobe lights.
Rose combines the poetic gifts of a Patti Smith with a powerful voice reminiscent of Lady Gaga. There’s nothing muddled about her future, she’s on her way to stardom.
