Saya Gray’s latest indie-rock track "LIE DOWN.." is luminous with sweet melancholy
"LIE DOWN..", the final single released ahead of Saya Gray’s debut album SAYA, is a testament to the powerful nature of curiosity.
Long ago carved out of stone by meticulous artists, statutes can seem as solid as history itself. With the introduction of a pickaxe, however, they are just as impermenant as anything. If something so solid can be chiseled into dust, what about something intangible like our spirit? In her latest track "LIE DOWN.." indie-rocker Saya Gray asks impossible questions about life and love, gifting us a song that emotionally reels and heals at the same.
Meshing a unique brand of synth-pop with indie-folk and alternative rock, "LIE DOWN.." is strong in its mathematical percussion yet vulnerable in its euphoric stacked harmonies. The track canvasses the idea that after we’re gone, do our memories remain etched into the minds of those we leave behind, or are we doomed to fade away? Unanswered questions like these shape and inform the most compelling of art and leave hearts gasping. Walking the tightrope between that tender existentialism and resilience in a warming balance, "LIE DOWN.." strikes just the right chord.
Accompanied by a melodic electric guitar that stings, and warm lines of bass and synth that frame Gray’s rumination, "LIE DOWN.." is a powerful pondering about what might happen after the flame of life burns into stardust. This is a surprising single leaving listeners giddy for Gray’s debut LP, SAYA. Inspired by the likes of the Beatles, Joni Mitchell, and Led Zeppelin, it’s promising to be as spirited and lush as the discography of these influences. The song is also accompanied by a highly stylized music video. Directed by frequent collaborator of Gray, Jennifer Cheng, the project is heavily influenced by film noir.
"LIE DOWN.." is out now, ahead of her debut album SAYA set for release on 21 February 2025. Find Saya Gray on Instagram.
