The Dutch singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist philine opens up about her awakening experience with a psychedelic trip in the first single, "green", from her upcoming EP
Based in The Netherlands, philine welcomes listeners into her world through her deeply introspective music and storytelling lyrics. Her latest release “green” does just that, as she eagerly opens up about her own experiences during a particular psychedelic trip and how it resulted in clarity and an awakening.
philine shares, “I wrote it after my first psychedelic experience, it felt like everything split and came back together as one universal thing. My perspective switched for the better. ‘green’ is about the bright side of life, love, and coming home. You’re surrendering to the collectiveness.”
Sonically “green” showcases philine’s soft, ethereal vocals that instantly captivate the listener in their paces, as delicate instrumentation and subtle percussion deliver an all-encompassing aura.
“green” is the first single to be released from the upcoming EP, side-effects of living in a fantasy. A collection of tracks which delve into the artist's weird and wonderful imagination, as she takes you along on some of her most personal and vulnerable experiences. Speaking more about the upcoming music, philine confides, “During the writing process, I spent a lot of time inside of my brain. I have a huge imagination, and I’m a big overthinker. I tend to live in fantasy more than reality. I get so caught up with how I perceive things and my almost movie like version of life."
She continues, "The upside to it is that with a mind like that, I’ll always have stories to tell. But the thing with a story is, it’s not reality, it’s a story. And it keeps you from living in the actual reality. When that happens, or when reality hits in my face, I isolate myself and become very absent to the outside world. These songs are the moments when I’m captured inside of my thoughts.”
Let philine remedy all your woes with the beautifully celestial “green.”
