Colet crafts a warm ethereal world of her own in new single “Getaway Car”. Whether you crave a good dance or cry, the dream pop artist delivers both in the four tracks of her brand-new EP We Only Ever Meet in Strange Dreams.

In life the sun will shine, but just as often it sets, and in the darkness we each find our own ways to escape until the light comes through again. Dream pop artist Niki Colet has gotten to know that darkness all too well in recent months as she was forced to navigate the end of a relationship among other tumultuous life changes. While the pain might have left scars, it also inspired her to find release in her music. The result is her moving new four-track EP We Only Ever Meet in Strange Dreams.

Finding popularity in the indie music scene in the Philippines, and now based out of London, Colet has a sound reminiscent of rising star Sarah Kinsley and indie alt-rock icon Soccer Mommy. The singer recorded her new project while working in a North London coffee shop with producer Alex Haines (Soren Bryce) and producer/mixer Tom Archer (The Strokes, Moses Sumney). The resulting EP is a moving, emotional project with nods to modern dream pop and ‘90s alternative rock. “As an artist from Southeast Asia, it feels like both a gift and an accomplishment to be able to make this project and carve out an opportunity for myself in London,” Colet said.

One standout track off the EP is lead single “Getaway Car”, an introspective piece framed by tender lyrics and a lush, atmospheric soundscape. In the sultry track Colet wonders, “if you’re already broken can you still fall apart?” and “can flowers bloom in the dark?” She dreams of being taken away in a getaway car to escape the darkness she’s stuck in. Here she captures the sounds of intense longing, a heavy feeling that winds through the rest of the record too. Her soft soundscapes are accompanied by loud feelings, and like the blank spaces in a book, the minimalist atmosphere gives her lyrics space to breathe. Simply put, it’s all a part of the magic.

While “Getaway Car” might be some recounting of a dream, the music itself is raw and real, and the four therapeutic tracks of Colet’s record are a sign that she is floating above her feelings, letting them drift away instead of allowing them to consume her completely. So, if you need some healing for yourself, check out “Getaway Car” and the rest of Colet’s EP below.
