Luvcat puts on her rose-coloured glasses in hazy new pop track “Love & Money”

When blinded by the euphoria of love or lust, it feels like the perfect time to live life with reckless abandon. Depending on your perspective, it’s an easy trap to fall into, or an opportunity to chase to its fullest.

Rising pop star Luvcat shares her version of this timeless tale in her latest single “Love & Money”. Released just in time for the holiday of love, Luvcat is known for her quirky pop singles and witty lyrics. Her moniker comes from a song by The Cure, and she specializes in crafting similar tracks covering the in-and-outs of twisted romantics.

In “Love & Money”, a shimmering synth sets the tone with a warm bass and driving drums coming to complete the soundscape. It’s a summery pop song following a budding young couple who plan to fund their adventures with the help of NSFW videos. “‘Love & Money’ is a love letter to a Pam and Tommy-style passionate, all-consuming romance in the city,” Luvcat explains. “I wrote it after meeting a bartender at a pub, falling in love at first sight and having a never-ending night of mischief in London.”

Exploding into a dreamworld of stacked harmonies and boisterous instrumentals, Luvcat gives into the “worst idea” she’s ever had while blinded by the smoke of her own false perceptions. “Let’s make love and lots of money,” she sings in the track. The euphoric instrumentals match the dreamy lyrics in the song, crafting an effortless contemporary pop anthem with smooth notes of R&B and indie rock.

Along with the song comes a vibrant music video filled with nods to classic romance films like Candy and Notting Hill. Luvcat stars in it alongside one of her former flames. “We filmed in all my old haunts and tried to capture the chaos of two naive scousers living in a beautiful, sleazy love story in London,” she said.

“Love & Money” comes out in the middle of Luvcat’s sold-out residency at London’s Hoxton Hall. As her fan base grows quickly, with millions of listens on her first three singles, this could be one of the last times she plays a venue of this size.
