Lloren’s latest single “The One” signals the rise of her status as a force in contemporary pop
The latest track by Lloren has us believing in love again, just in time for the summer
While some may call you naive, others maybe a dreamer, there’s something inherently bold about believing in something as abstract as love. While many choose to squash those hopeful parts of themselves down, thinking it too unrealistic, singer and producer Lloren embraces this “overdramatic” side of herself instead. Now she’s proudly sharing her stories of yearning and unreciprocated love in her latest single “The One”.
With a style similar to pop icons like Carly Rae Jepson, Lloren is no stranger to crafting powerful pop songs, many of which have since graced the screens of popular TV shows and movies. In this particular track, she longs after memories of a past beachside romance. Lloren clings to fleeting thoughts of those sunset drives down Ocean Boulevard, sinking into the sparse moments when her lover dropped their facade and finally saw her as “the one.” Laden with nostalgic sounds of classic ‘80s pop through buzzing synthesizers, Lloren’s rich vocals vulnerably call out to those lover girl dreams, making for an effortlessly catchy contemporary pop anthem that’s timeless. As Lloren likes to call it, it’s “retro anthemic pop.”
"This song is for those who have a penchant for the dramatic, the delulu and have absolutely no chill in the romance department. I guess you could say it's just another girl being melodramatic in love, and what better way to serve melodrama than with a side of Hollywood nostalgia all wrapped up in retro synth, so it feels like you're being given a hug by the 80s," Lloren explained about the new song. Produced by Anna Schulze, “The One” is the third track coming in anticipation of Lloren’s upcoming debut album It’s Always Sunny in LA. Out later this summer, the project promises an equally romantic narrative.
Other singles released in anticipation of the album include “California Daydream” and “Like This”, the latter of which won Lloren a Leo Award in Canada. Previously Lloren has also made waves as a finalist on the Voice in 2018, and from headlining London and Manchester’s annual pride celebrations. Still, these latest releases are proving just how much of a force in contemporary pop she truly is. So, even if you’re not convinced that the love that’s portrayed on the screen exists, you might let yourself believe it for just a few minutes white listening to this shimmery, synth dream.
