Isla Den play with light and shadow on "Until The Sun Dies, All My Love"
Montreal duo Isla Den are set to welcome listeners into their world with their latest project and dual single, "Until The Sun Dies, All My Love"; inviting people to dance and find distraction, to feel their emotions but not live inside them.
Comprising of members Ellie and Mira, Isla Den are well known among the underground underground electronic scene. Picking influence from both rave and pop music, the sound they have cultivated is uniquely their own and latest project stitching together two singles under one project, "Until The Sun Dies, All My Love", is just one example of finding space for their myriad of influences.
Ellie describes the product as “about love that burns brightest on the edge of darkness. It explores the relationship between shadow and light, capturing the beauty of those fleeting moments that exist between the two like star-crossed lovers.” Such themes describe how the music should be experienced as much as it describes the sound and lyrical content itself. The ideal setting for such a track is a dancefloor where the lights refract on the crowd as music blares. The tempo and bass immerse you in this world and the duo make sure to do so.
The way the lyrics are delivered elicit an intense emotion: there is sadness in it. By combining this with the upbeat instrumental, there’s space for multiple nuanced feelings to coexist. It’s an example of why alternative pop and its subgenres are so enduring. Despite how influenced they are by both the rave and electronic music scene, there is always an ethereal element in their work, embodying the popular saying ‘opposites attract’. Sonically "Until The Sun Dies, All My Love" evokes both elements of the future and the past, reminiscent of club music in the 2000s but with a fresh perspective that propels it into a time not yet reached.
The duo have been developing their sound since 2018, releasing a steady influx of EPs up until this year ahead of their first full-length album, Air Melodies - Second Wind. They’ve been exploring concepts that centre on themes such as the digital age and nostalgia for some time now, and "Until The Sun Dies, All My Love" delves even deeper; emotive, and immediately identifiable as Isla Den.
