I Am Roze's "Who I Am" showcases their jaw-dropping voice
"Who I Am" is lifted from Louisiana artist I Am Roze's forthcoming EP, set to be released later this spring via LAB Records
Whilst 22 year old I Am Roze has only released one official independent single into the ether, they have already caused heads to turn at break-neck speed after featuring on a sleu of Fred Again.. singles. Fred fell in love with Roze's voice on very first listen. Featuring them on two singles, "Forgive" and "Euston Station", this collaboration came as a lifeline for Roze, whose house had just been destroyed in Hurricane Laura.
Taking this as a divine sign to keep singing, Roze is now on the precipice of releasing a debut EP of songs of their own. Pouring deep emotions into their second single from the project, "Who I Am", they stake their claim over magnetising lyrics, “'cause I'm not changing who I am to make you happy / It took a while just to find the real me”. The track is a Southern affair too, as Louisiana-born Roze teams up with Nashville-based singer/songwriter Brye.
“'Who I Am' is about being unquestionably, unequivocally in love with yourself and being love, personified," Roze shares of the track "It is a statement about identity and self-worth and your willingness to be unwavering in both. 'Who I Am' is a self-love song. I wanted it to be a song to be proud of - I want everybody to be proud of who they were and who they choose to be. It takes a lot to be who you are and not be who people expect you to be”.
With such an incomparable voice and sonics dripping in soul, it's no surprise Roze is on the rise. Already receiving nods from industry legends like Timbaland and Summer Walker, Roze was also asked to participate in Nitin Sawhney CBE's Identity Album released last year. Having gone on to perform the song on Later... with Jools Holland, Roze certainly has a glistening career ahead of them in such a remarkably early stage of their musical output.
