Sink into a blistering shoegaze soundscape with green star’s latest track “four-o-five”

Long after the end of a bad situation, the guilt lingers on. How do you accept responsibility for what happened without jeopardizing your newfound freedom? The London three-piece green star explores these conflicting emotions in their latest single “four-o-five”.

green star's latest "four-o-five" begins with a meeting of searing guitar chords and boisterous drums, setting the tone for the single and the deliciously abrasive instrumentals to come. In a brief explosion of feedback, the song begins to take on a deeper form with the soundscape expanding to make room for melodic guitar tones framed by Dylan Glichrist’s driving percussion. Like a dark dream, the song alternates between those moments of raucous noise and warm, seductive tones, accepting the euphoria and grime of life just the same.

The hazy shoegaze noise acts as a shroud over the slack vocal lines of Pedro Soler, Alberto de Torre, and Lilah Bobak. The lyrics are darkly romantic. “It’s nothing new. Sink into you,” they sing, as the listener also drifts deeper into this mystical shoegaze scene.

Altogether “four-o-five” is a cohesive shoegaze single rife with compelling guitar fuzz, seductive lyrics, and unique chord structures. It’s an ode to radical acceptance and a perfect melodic representation of what it feels like to live on with your mistakes. “four-o-five is flooded with energy revelatory imagery and raucous guitars, and there is a noisy power struggle between facing your wrongdoings and celebrating your emergent freedom,” the band says about the single.

Inspired by acts like Sonic Youth and Swirlies, this is the third garage rock track out from this global burgeoning three-piece, and there’s more to come on the horizon. “four-o-five” comes out alongside an announcement of the band’s debut EP bleeding swirls, which is due for release on May 2. Fans, stay tuned.
