Flat Party air their grievances with the world in "Hindsight"
With new single "Hindsight", energetic art-rock 6-piece Flat Party grace us with yet another promising release.
Over the past year, Flat Party has become an ever-rising name in the indie rock scene, not just in their native London, but across the country. They now bring us "Hindsight", the final single to come before their self-titled debut EP that is set for release on 19 January.
Released on Submarine Cat Records (home to underground up-and-comers FEET, Home Counties, Swim Deep etc.), the band have certainly been getting the right kind of attention that would suggest they are going step by step towards success.
The sound has taken a slightly different direction in comparison to the group’s previous releases. It seems that Flat Party have smoothed off some of the rougher edges, swapping driven guitar hooks for jangly chords and more intricate structures. It’s a different feel for the band, but it still doesn’t fail to get stuck in your head.
Despite an arguably less confrontational sound, the motive behind the track is still undoubtedly charged with frustration. Explaining the meaning behind the song, vocalist Jack says ‘’Our generation is often seen as this group of people who moan for no reason, but it really does feel like we’ve got absolutely no power to try and shift things for the better... it’s ultimately about frustration, especially at the attitudes that are commonly directed to our generation about the state of the world and how 'ungrateful' we are.”
The biggest takeaway from "Hindsight" is that Flat Party are starting to show more than one string to their bow. It’s clear they don’t want to be pigeonholed, and with this track, the band have shown off their versatility, whilst still maintaining their astute lyricism and exciting compositions.
You get the feeling that their upcoming debut EP is only the start of things, and we can be sure to see a lot more of Flat Party in the not-too-distant future.
"Hindsight" is out now, with the new EP Flat Party set for release on 19 January. Find Flat Party on Instagram and catch them live at The Social on 29 November.
