Filmore! explores the unpredictability of life in textured D&B track “It Never Ends”

The work of the heart is often something of a tightrope walk between fulfillment and despair. Every artist must learn to navigate the complexity of following their passion despite the emotional and financial baggage that inevitably comes with. While navigating these realities is often difficult, it also, ironically, makes for great fodder for more art too. D&B artist Filmore! proves that with his latest EP Idle Death Gamble, which is an exploration of the highs and lows of being an artist.

“There’s never been a more unpredictable era to be a musician. There are no tastemakers or barriers to entry which is good but there’s no longer a guaranteed path. It’s all chaos. It’s all risk. It’s success or the slow death of irrelevance. It’s a gamble,” Filmore! said about the lifestyle.

The project as a whole is raw and dark, much like its subject of life can be, and that reality comes through especially in lead track “It Never Ends”. Much like a roulette wheel, life is a series of highs and lows that spins around incessantly in repetitive circles. Fillmore! dives into that complicated reality in his raw lyrics, wondering how he feels young and old simultaneously, all framed by a highly addictive soundscape of bouncing bass, synth, and drums. “In the end it always ends, but it never ends,” Filmore! sings. While this track, along with the rest of the EP, details a deeply personal journey for Filmore!, it’s also something that most any creative can relate to.

In the past Filmore!’s sound has been likened to greats such as old Tyler, The Creator or JPEGMAFIA, but the genre-defier is crafting a sound all on his own, meshing elements of raw hyperpop, rap, and EDM across his discography.
