BIZZY fights to break old habits in bold alt-pop single “Default Setting”
BIZZY once again unapologetically bares her soul to her audience. While she dabbles in different genres, from moody singer-songwriter anthems to buzzing rock tracks, her latest single comes with a strong alt-pop mentality. Channeling a sound akin to bold artists such as early Avril Lavigne or the pop-punk sounds of Charli xcx, this bombastic new track is just a small taste of what’s to come from this burgeoning star.
Life is a learning process for all of us, but some lessons are easier understood than others. Learning how to tie your shoes might take an afternoon, but navigating something as complex as love can take a whole lifetime. Plus, setbacks can leave scars that last forever.
Maryland-born and Nashville-based alt-pop artist BIZZY knows this reality all too well, and she captures the strong emotions that stay after a complex relationship in her latest single “Default Setting”. With raw lyrics and a confident sound, BIZZY released her debut EP I Don’t Get Breakups and signed with record label Big Loud Rock prior to this latest track. Once a ghostwriter for other pop artists, she’s now making a name for herself as an individual with bold new songs like this.
In “Default Setting” BIZZY eases listeners in with soft strumming of guitar framing vulnerable confessions about her past relationships, growing in urgency as she recounts the relationships she’s been in since leaving her toxic past. Learning how to grow with the pain, she goes on holidays with new flames, meets kind families, and even has a man confess his love for her. Despite all those new, healthy opportunities, one toxic relationship has left her confused and pulls her out of the healthy mindset that she craves. She can’t focus on any romantic date or trip. She’s just not sure how to break old patterns. Still, she keeps pushing forward.
"You have to ride the wave and let yourself go through it, embracing vulnerability along the way," BIZZY explained about the track. "'Default Setting' captures that emotional journey of trying to move on from a past love you can’t seem to shake, and the self-reflection that accompanies it.”
As the song progresses, “Default Setting” explodes into a full-on alt-pop anthem with driving drums and bold electric guitar. BIZZY admits that she’s unable to shake her first love from her mind, despite the fact that he was never quite “the patron saint of dating,” and even made her question her worth. Still, she’s working on healing and slowly making strides in a better direction, proving that healing is possible and always worth it.
While some people might choose to suffer through complex emotions like these alone, BIZZY works through her emotions loud and proud in this song. These feelings are something we can share to bring us closer together, not stuff down until they break us. There is still life to live beyond stages of anger and confusion, you just have to break past that default setting and see it through. With the help of candid artists like BIZZY, we can get there faster than we think.
