BIG WETT embraces the femme with a defiant machismo on "NO REGRETS"

The Aussie provocateur has already built a legion of loyal followers, crafting the perfect 120-second-long sonic head rushes pumped with not just with an innate and dramatically camp femininity, but also with a healthy dose of machismo in their aggressively rebellious lyricism. Detractors would argue it's not becoming to portray such an irreverent, liberating self-indulgence, but BIG WETT just laughs it off in the style of slut-pop predecessors Kim Petras and Slayyyter. "Feeling good / feeling naughty / baby if you want to party / fuck me good," she sings on "HOLD UR BODY"; "ride me like a pony," she downright orders on the aptly titled "PONY (RIDE ME)" – a song that, yes, proudly uses a horse's neigh as its own instrument. Nothing is stepping in the way of BIG WETT's quest for sexual expression.

Curated chaos, her latest EP RISK IT harvests the sweat from the club room walls and mixes it with bottles of poppers and mezcal to make for a debaucherous, heady concoction; pure, filthy mayhem. Opening the record with the defiant "NO REGRETS", BIG WETT roars her manifesto, "NO REGRETS, NO MISTAKES, NO HEARTACHES." And for her it's no sleep, not ever, lusting for the intimacy and strobe lights of the dancefloor.

"NO REGRETS" throttles with persistence, and the banging, digitised percussive line blinks in and out of focus much like that moment of liminality when you catch yourself in the steamed mirror of the club bathrooms - dizzy, smeared makeup, and somewhat uncanny. In BIG WETT's world, regrets are blips on the path to desire, and this track exists to drown them out.

"You can’t please everyone, and honestly, why would you want to?," she muses, "having haters means you’re doing something that shakes people up. At least I’m not boring.” In fact, boring isn't even part of BIG WETT's vocabulary. Releasing her debut EP PU$$Y in 2023, alongside club banger after club banger since, her brand is the antithesis of drab and dull conformation. BIG WETT is here to scramble the status quo. And, in a global environment that seems to be turning its back on progress made in queer and women's spaces, she is just the force we need to embrace the femme, laud our sexual positivity, and defiantly reclaim bodily autonomy.
