We love you so bad, LANY Live in London
Last Friday, indie pop experts LANY released their sophomore album Malibu Nights. Returning to London to play their emotively written songs for the first time to a sold-out crowd, the Californian natives played with a continuous pace of raw emotion, performing pop music with an ever-changing momentum that was complimented by a visually stimulating setup.
Two rectangular screens counting down from thirty seconds and a packed out crowd inside the O2 Forum Kentish Town readily waited for LANY's unique blend of synth power pop. Beginning with album opener “Thick & Thin” - set to a dynamic stage setup of two visually animated screens - the band stood atop a raised platform while frontman Paul Klein took centre stage.
Sporting his Barcelona football top and sun-kissed bleach blonde hair - Klein performed emphatically with songs from the new record with previous releases making appearances including “Good Girls” and “ILYSB”.Highlights included “Thru These Tears” where a rising LANY code showed on screen as the band returned to play the encore for a crowd that evidently didn’t want to say farewell.
Tonight, LANY showcased pop in all of it’s glory; changing visuals moving between previous artworks and nostalgic music videos which allowed emotions to touch you in all the right places for a show that ultimately was a journey.
