If you only see five bands at Visions Festival...
With this year’s festival season well and truly underway, we’re sure everyone has had their fair share of muddy fields, broken tent pegs and dubious late night veggie burgers. With this in mind, it’s nice that the good folk at Visions Festival are here to provide a bit of respite by providing a ‘no tent required’ festival on Saturday (8th August) without short changing us on the music.
Spanning four venues across the heart of east London, Visions has done a stellar job of curating a veritable smorgasbord of sonic delights, perfect for any pair of discerning ears. Whether you feel like tripping out to Peaking Lights at the London Fields Brewhouse or letting The Antlers soothe your overactive hippocampus at the historic St John Church, there’s going to be plenty to keep your musical taste buds in check, if you can drag yourself away from the accompanying craft beer and food festival, that is.
Here are five acts we’re looking forward to checking out at Visions this year.
Loyle Carner - Brewhouse - 16:45-17:15
With an early afternoon start, why not ease yourself in with Loyle Carner who’ll be supplying his erudite flow to Brewhouse? Never one to hold back, Carner is known for his confrontational tales of life growing up in the inner city delivered over slick soulful hooks. Perfect to head-bob along to as the evening approaches.
Hinds - Oval Space - 17:15-18:00
A Visions must-see has to be Hinds (FKA Deers). The scrappy Spanish foursome have played the capital quite a few times already, but this set at Oval Space is probably the band’s biggest show to date. Always at the ready to fire off tightly wound blasts of catchy proto-punk with a witty attitude, Hinds never disappoint.
Ceremony - Laundry - 19:00-19:45
Californian five-piece Ceremony will be delivering their second set of the weekend (they’re also playing a pre-festival show on Friday) at Laundry. Following the release of their fifth album, L-Shaped Man back in May, Ceremony further cemented their reputation as one the forerunners of the cerebral shoegaze movement. The band are also celebrating their tenth birthday as a band. We’re not saying there will be cake, but it’s sure to be an amazing show. This one’s going to be busy so get there early.
H09909 - Moth Club - 22:00-22:45
H09909 will be on hand to take you well and truly out of your comfort zone when they hit the stage at Moth Club. This outfit have developed a well deserved reputation for raucous live shows and we’re guessing H09909 are going deliver some serious, ear splitting action.
The New Jersey duo’s singular brand of turbo-fuelled electronics, speaker destroying beats and thrash metal ethos combine to form the equivalent of clipping. having a chainsaw fight with Death Grips. It’s going to be loud. Someone will probably get naked. You have been warned.
Camera Obscura - St John Church - 21:45-23:00
As headliners go, you’d be hard pressed to find a more worthy one than Camera Obscura. The Scottish collective have a well seasoned reputation and it’s a rare treat to be able to see them perform their unique chamber pop in such a beautiful setting.
Camera Obscura may have a reputation for being a bit of a part-time band, involving themselves in other projects and having a fairly sporadic release history. But their last album Desire Lines saw the band take their touring and general output up a notch, and they’re sure to be primed for a sumptuous show that is set to be an unmissable highlight of Visions 2015.
