The Growlers – Oslo, London 16/08/14
The Growlers brought their signature ‘Beach Goth’ sound to Hackney’s Oslo venue on Saturday night, playing to a sold-out crowd of excited fans who sang along to every word of the 22-song-long set.
The London leg of their current UK tour very quickly turned into a sweat-fest that gradually became more and more chaotic as the show developed. Lead singer Brooks Nielson began by pulling a woman up on stage to dance, which later encouraged a full blown stage invasion with half of the crowd taking to the stage. After eventually leading everyone back off of the stage to continue with the set, the chaos continued with crowd-surfing and manic mosh pits.
Songs such as “Ol’ Rat Face” and “Row” whipped up a storm, with Nielson switching between two microphones with different effects running through them whilst swinging his hips and dancing across the stage.
However, it was closing songs “Someday” and “Beach Rats” that provided the biggest sing-a-longs of the night, as well as the sweatiest.
