Little Dragon put on a kaleidoscopic pop party at Printworks this weekend
Illuminated through light and shadow amid the exposed machinery of London’s Printworks, Little Dragon concocted a transfusion of genres that reached across the years.
The Swedish electronic four-piece gave a momentous performance at London’s renowned Printworks venue, complimented by the extroversion of front-woman Yukimi Nagano.
Opening with “The Pop Life” from 2017's Season High, each member worked a quirky outfit, from the coloured spots of keyboardist Håkan Wirenstrand, to Nagano’s golden one-piece. It shimmered as she flung herself across the stage, tambourine whistling through the air.
“We’re going to dive into the unknown” shouted Nagano before launching in to new track, “In My House”, due to be released on Lover Chanting, the bands forthcoming EP . Tonight, the title track from that record saw drummer Erik Bodin’s live vocals working in conjunction with Nagano’s to drive a chilled-out, slinky groove.
A key moment saw Bodin stood atop the hi-hat of his drum kit, before flying back down onto his stool and concluding the band’s set with a haunting version of “Twice” from their self-titled debut, closing with a moment of nostalgia. .
Little Dragon transformed the vast industrial space of Printworks into a playground of experimental soul and synth-pop, with a tracklist spanning their entire career.
Lover Chanting will be out next Friday, the 9th of November.
