Hippo Campus spread summer warmth and debut new songs, Live in London
With 2017 seeing not only the release of their debut album, landmark, but also the band’s third EP, Hippo Campus are already pushing on with more new music as they debut tracks from LP 2 at a pair of sold out shows at Omeara.
Off the back of landmark’s success, the Minnesotan indie pop scouts have just today announced that their second album Bambi will be released in only a month’s time, and tonight they brought their all-American party to London to celebrate. With a strong knack for writing catchy, colourful jams, they showed off the new tunes with pride as well as packing in a mound of fan favourites to tonight’s setlist.
Hot off the press, Bambi’s title track kicks off the show, setting the bar for excitement straight through the roof for the already enraptured fans down the front. Another new single, “Passenger” is also showcased, with a sound of epic proportions that promises good things for the upcoming release.
Although of course it was the band’s more classic bops that got the best singalongs and most enthusiastic shapes thrown, as top tracks from landmark such as “Way It Goes”, “Simple Season” and “Western Kids” pounded the night with punchy guitar riffs, studded with gutsy trumpet parts. “This is the big one, it got over 300,000 listens on soundcloud” jokes vocalist Jake Luppen as they twang into “Suicide Saturday” from their debut EP.
The radiant beats of “Buttercup” close the set with a certain shimmering beauty, confirming Hippo Campus’s ability so fill the room with a feel-good glow. They’ll continue to spread their summer warmth to the UK at Reading and Leeds Festival this weekend.
