"Harmonium"

Comparing Harmonium to lift music would be a bit mean. But at the same time it's also a damn accurate description. It's got that sound where you can drift out and drift back in again fifteen minutes later and really not have missed anything. Now I've definitely given The Soundcarriers a fair chance. And yet every time I've somehow wandered off (not literally, at least not every time), and it's failed to hold my attention, particularly the instrumental, free-falling tracks. There's an odd Charlie's Angels vibe on 'Calling Me' - it's that woodwind sound that's synonymous with the show, and the slightly swung tempo sounds like it's lifted straight from the same era as Farrah Fawcett's hair.Sadly that's really the main point of interest on Harmonium though, as it's all just a warm, downbeat, gloopy sound. With better use of the instruments they've got on board, - xylophones, woodwind, even a bit of harp-, and maybe with a couple of cans of Red Bull The Soundcarriers could kickstart themselves, but their obsession with retro pop and 70s psych and being like, totally mellow, has over shadowed their actual sound, and everything just melts into the background in a non-descript haze.Harmonium is nothing remarkable, nothing to write home about, nothing to make your ears bleed, and nothing truly atrocious. Just a general laid-back, somewhat repetitive sound that's so inoffensive I'm hard pressed to find anything to say about it at all.
