Debut albums generally tend to be a statement of intent.

A band can wind up defining themselves through this medium forever more, so they have to make it count. For young LA band Pinky Pinky, their growth from the two previous EPs - 2017’s self-titled and 2018’s Hot Tears - which started their journey it turns out were barely a precursor to this amalgamation of just about everything that resides deep within the trio, now surfacing on the veritable feast of Turkey Dinner.

The dreamy, sliding chords that kickstart proceedings are the beginning of a continuous line of tracks that each intertwine, pairing a musical arc that keeps a hold on itself while the trio free-flow between everything from three-tracks-in-one odd-ball indie (“My Friend Sean”) to soft Americana elements (“Applecheeks”) and just about anything else in-between.

Much like its namesake, Turkey Dinner has a bit of everything, which could fall into dangerous, bloated territory - you know, when you’ve just had one too many roast potatoes, kind of thing - but what Pinky Pinky graciously manage to do is make sure you move onto the next dish with plenty of room to spare.

Each component has a direct focus, always leaving breathing room into the next - a testament to the finely tuned art they’ve developed around themselves over the last four years. Even the non-musical elements, such as characters from their world, the one they grew up and worked in (“Lady Dancer”) feel rife with excitement as jangly bass, and tasty guitar licks create melodies which breathe life into these real-world elements.

Turkey Dinner is an album that not only proves Pinky Pinky are capable of delivering a lot more than just being a ‘garage band’ as they’ve so been tagged. They can bring life-force, Stones-esque energy in even the most stubborn crescendos that feel as tantalising as they do reward (“Mr Sunday”). Dig into the most delicious and sweet tasting eleven-track feast you’ll find this year, and Pinky Pinky will welcome you into their world with bright-eyed promise.
