Magic Potion's debut EP is the perfect escape exactly when you need it most

Refreshingly off-kilter, Magic Potion's unconventional approach to songwriting is one that's certain to enchant. Relatable, even conversational lyrics resound with a fresh intensity, a cool breeze through gently babbling refrains. Telling tales of hazily empty days and staying out until the sun comes up, the Swedish trio have taken your fondest summer memories and made them sound even better than you recognize. Guitars swelter in and out of place whilst percussion strolls at it's own steady pace, taking the lead towards delightfully catchy choruses.

Opener "1995" sees vocals swim through rippling layers of guitars to hypnotizing effect, whilst the drowsy riffs of "Deep Web" drift to another plane entirely. "Booored" is the group at their most vibrant, chiming refrains and animated rhythms counteracting faultlessly with the track's anxious lyrics. Laid back and spaced out, the hazy rhythms of EP closer "Neon Fruit" amble like a half remembered dream before evaporating completely.

In only four tracks, Magic Potion have managed to both magnetize and mesmerize. The Melt EP might be short, but woven through the songs is an ingenuity that can't be mistaken. Equal parts soaring and soporific, this debut release is reverie made real - and what could be more endearing than that? "Gonna show you what I dream about" the band croon on "Neon Fruit" - lulling you out of your own world and into theirs, Magic Potion have created the perfect escape, and they make it all look so easy.
