A Muse In Her Feelings explores nightlife and R&B with a little help from some of dvsn's friends
"A Muse In Her Feelings"
In the gentle R&B beats of Toronto natives dvsn’s third album, A Muse In Her Feelings, comes a look into the nightlife that flitters around that cityscape of dreams and reality, pivotally centred around temptation that arises.
Signed to Drake's OVO Sound, singer Daniel Daley and producer nineteen85 are a match made in heaven. The duo’s MO doesn’t generally veer too far from the more soulful and sultry R&B moments - fitting given dvsn manage to evoke something deeper than face value, honing in on the to-and-fro of life, but there's always a little bit more waiting.
From the harp-tinged starter of “No Good”, far across the twinkling lights, broken hearts and epiphany, to thunderous claps of “…Again” A Muse holds itself aloft, floating dreamily on a sea of feeling. Forward momentum continued through the precision point tracks, including the tribal pounding of “Keep It Going”, ensure the night doesn’t lay waste to a dreamland lullaby.
A veritable feast of guest spots, the likes of PARTYNEXTDOOR, Jessie Reyez and Ty Dolla $ign are surefire crowdpleasers, but all the additional talent is used for is pure seasoning. The emphatic beats from nineteen85, those that gloss with the same ferocity as the bubbles in a flute of champagne, are all that Daley needs to keep a heart yearning.
There’s something about The Six that manages to evoke the emotional imagery of something like a flirtatious meeting in a nightclub to something akin to the romantic majesty of Romeo and Juliet - and maybe that’s because they are the new stages for life to live - but being able to get lost amongst those feelings is where dvsn thrive and A Muse In Her Feelings attests to such.
