The poster boys for twee and all things lovely, Boy Least Likely To, return with their second album The Law Of The Playground, the follow up to the rather good Best Party Ever, released in 2005.So has all this credit crunch, recession, generally depressing times malarkey taken its toll on the happiest band around? Of course not. Cue banjos, glockenspiels, trumpets, whistles and assorted percussion toys. The album is strewn with little pearls of wisdom - the lyrics of 'A Balloon on a Broken String' - "And I know I look shiny and bouncy/ But I'm all empty inside and I worry/ That if I was to just burst suddenly then nobody would even notice me" -  are trivial, obvious and yet incredibly profound at the same time. And of course all sung in an amazing snare drum infused- march -style sing- a -long fashion. 'When Life Gives Me Lemons I Made Lemonade' speaks for itself, and it maybe a cliché, but it's one worth hearing once in a while. Especially when it's accompanied by one of those wooden block things with ridges on that you rub a stick up and down (answers on a postcard if you know what it's called). So it's most definitely business as usual for the Boy, and back to basics with an album that does exactly what it says - The Law Of The Playground does a whistle stop tour of the perils of the playground - from marbles to catapults, and bullies to anoraks, and that's just in 'Every Goliath Has It's David'.For some, the abundance of loveliness will probably be a bit too sickly sweet to take in a whole album but, unlike some bands, you can tell Boy Least Likely To aren't putting this on - when they get together to make music together, this is what comes out. And it certainly proves that their first album wasn't a one off. How many other bands manage to get some crazy synths and classic fiddle all on one track?'I Box Up All The Butterflies' is set to be the first release from The Law Of The Playground, and it's a comeback single and a half. There's a noodling banjo, a perfect handclap moment, and potential for a spontaneous hoe-down happening if you play it in a public place. So the party continues, thank goodness, with this second offering from Boy Least Likely To. Still, arguably, the loveliest music aroun - and everyone could definitely benefit from a slice of this at the moment.
