Aibai constructs a dreamland of hazy indietronica on her self-titled EP

Aibai’s inspiration for project stems from an amalgamation of her electronic influences such as Odesza and Flume and her indie favourites including Clairo and Rex Orange County. Taking an overall soothing, soft tone with fluttering analogue elements like airy guitar riffs that glide over the more subtle electro moments, the EP is truly intriguing from start to finish. Both Aibai’s songwriting and production intertwine throughout, showing her ability to combine the analogue world of indie and the shimmering synth land of electronica.

Lead single “Glow” emanates summertime vibes with its uplifting tone. Singer Swims gives the song a lazy, easy-going feel, complementing the plodding beat and swirling synths. Then there is “More Than Friends” featuring Colby Hansen. The track narrates the heart-wrenching feeling of having emotions for a friend and knowing it can never happen. The song takes a warm, feminine glaze flooded with ease and a gorgeous steady heartbeat that accompanies the gentle, pulsing guitar. The song has quirky, comforting synths and trickling waves of echoing guitar reverb, with Hansen’s silky, hushed vocals complimenting the aura of the track.

A personal favourite is “Feel Again” featuring Mønty C. Emitting an ethereal, nostalgic atmosphere, the track shimmers with delicate piano melodies and cascading percussion. “Feel Again” speaks about rebuilding trust with a loved one and fighting to keep that spark alive. The singer’s haunting backing vocals and soft, graceful delivery makes this the perfect song to sit back, relax and lose yourself.
