We were lucky enough to be able to tag along with Erased Tapes’ neo-classicist Nils Frahm at his last minute Jabberwocky replacement show at Village Underground in east London last weekend. The Berlin-based maestro played a staggering 90-minute set, including a rousing rendition of the crowd-requested ‘Toilet Brushes’, adding that travelling with the several toilet brushes needed to perform the track always aroused some interest when going through airport security. The intensely focused performance, coupled with a stunning light and sound set up made for a fantastic evening, and more-than-welcome substitute for the cancelled festival slot. Frahm is currently on a world tour, and is set to return to the UK for a run of nationwide appearances culminating in a sold out Barbican show in October; his latest releases are live album Spaces; and the music book SHEETS, a sheet music book comprising ten of his works complete with photographs and digital downloads.
