Young Fathers, RAYE, and Arctic Monkeys nominated for Mercury Prize Award 2023
The shortlist for this year's Mercury Prize with FREE NOW has been announced, with Arctic Monkeys, Young Fathers, RAYE, and Jockstrap among those tipped for the winner's spot.
Anna Calvi, Hannah Peel, Jamie Cullum, Jamz Supernova, Mistajam, and Jeff Smith are among this year's judges for the Mercury Prize. The 2023 Mercury Prize winner will be unveiled on 7 September during the Awards show at London's Eventim Apollo.
Among the nominees are Arctic Monkeys, who first won in 2006 for their debut album, Whatever They Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, and have further been nominated in 2007 for Favourite Worst Nightmare, and in 2018 for AM, and now have their fourth nomination for their seventh studio album, The Car.
They could potentially break PJ Harvey's title as the only person to have won the award more than once.
Young Fathers were the first Scottish band to with the Mercury Prize Award in 2014, and are now nominated again, for their album, Heavy Heavy, meanwhile Jockstrap, Shygirl, RAYE and Olivia Dean are all nominated for their debut albums.
