Watch Alela Diane cover Sandy Denny live in session for Best Fit
Portland-based singer/songwriter Alela Diane plays a cover of Sandy Denny's "Who Knows Where the Time Goes?" live in session exclusively for The Line of Best Fit in partnership with Crouch End Studios.
"I’ve been a fan of Sandy Denny since I first heard her voice on Fairport Convention’s 1969 album Liege and Lief," Diane tells Best Fit. "There are many versions of "Who Knows Where The Time Goes" - I also love the Nina Simone version. It’s a song that never ages, and can be felt as deeply now, as it was back then. I think the lyrics are all the more tragic knowing that Sandy died so young, leaving us only with her voice. It’s an honour to perform a song that the author is no longer able to sing."
Last month Diane released her latest album Looking Glass, which is produced and mixed by Tucker Martine (Neko Case, My Morning Jacket, The Decemberists) and arranged by Heather Woods Broderick. She will play a series of West Coast shows through January 2023, ahead of a European tour that includes a night at London's Union Chapel on 2 February 2023.
