Troye Sivan covers George Harrison’s "My Sweet Lord" for the finale of The Idol
In the final episode of HBO's short-lived series, The Idol, which was created by Sam Levinson and Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye, Troye Sivan shares a cover of the George Harrison track.
Troye Sivan's reimagining of “My Sweet Lord" was produced by Mike Dean and Tesfaye. The song was released in 1970 George Harrison of The Beatles during the final episode of The Idol.
Following the release of the fifth and final episode, The Weeknd shared “My Sweet Lord” as part of a trio of songs that were featured in the show’s final episode, including “Dollhouse" – a duet between the Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp – and “Crocodile Tears” by Suzanna Son.
Troye Sivan's cover release comes ahead of his forthcoming single “Rush” which is taken from his forthcoming album; the first in five years.
In a statement posted on Instagram last month, he revealed that new music was imminent: "10 years since i signed my record deal, 5 years since bloom. Enough excuses now. Enough saying ‘soon’ this is for YOU and it starts NOWWWW".
Since the release of Bloom, Sivan has collaborated with Charli XCX on “1999” and “2099”, as well as dropping the EP In a Dream during the pandemic. He has also worked with Kacey Musgraves and Mark Ronson on a remix of his song “Easy”. His latest releases are 2019's “Angel Baby” last year's PNAU collaboration on “You Know What I Need”.
Troye Sivan's forthcoming single, "Rush", arrives on 13 July.
