Tirzah, Kae Tempest and Kelsey Lu feature on Speakers Corner Quartet debut album
Speakers Corner Quartet release new single "On Grounds" feat. Coby Sey and announce their debut album, Further Out Than The Edge, which comes with a mega cast of collaborators.
Speakers Corner Quartet began as the house band at the legendary Brixton spoken word and hip hop night Speakers Corner in 2006.
Over the years as they played together as well as apart their career trajectory has been unparalleled with percussionist Kwake taking the role as musical director for Sampha, Lil Silva, Tirzah, whilst violinist Raven Bush has recently worked with Young Fathers, Dave Okumu, The Heliocentrics and Darkstar. As a band, their notable collaborations include Kae Tempest, Dean Blunt, the late MF DOOM, and Lianne La Havas.
Further Out Than The Edge features Tirzah, Kelsey Lu, Shabaka Hutchings, Coby Sey, Sampha, Kae Tempest, Mica Levi, Joe Armon-Jones, Lawfawndah, Léa Sen, and more.
Improvisating and then sampling their own jam sessions was the process to create this album, as flute player Biscuit explains: “We’re all one living, breathing organism when it comes to playing. This is the refined, final and definitive version of this project.”
