Tiberius b details forthcoming debut album, NEVERYTHING
London-based artist Frank Belcourt – AKA Tiberius b – has announced their forthcoming debut album, EVERYTHING.
The album is co-produced by Tiberius b, Dan Carey and Jamie Neville, and is being released on Mark Ronson’s Zelig Music. Accompanying the announcement is new single, "STAY WITH ME".
“I often write from a place of humour and the ping pong melody that happens before every chorus moans along similarly to that descending trombone “whomp whomp” effect that people use on tv,” explains Belcourt. “Paired with the music video, it becomes a facetious way to process loss. The vampire concept is an allegory to depict love addiction and emotional dependency, topics I feel somewhat ashamed to have to keep returning to in my writing.”
It’s a hopeful state," notes Belcourt. "Sometimes when I’m in a really, really low place, the tiny, tiny bit of optimism that I have feels really powerful. NEVERYTHING is a window into whatever that little light can be." While writing the record, Tiberius b visited their studio every week for a year to work on new music, regardless of whether they felt inspiration about to strike. These regular sessions gave them space to process upheavals in their personal life – separations, conflicts, and new relationships that threw familiar aspects of their identity into freefall.
"Forcing myself to go to the studio every week had this passive progressive impact on my production skills," says Belcourt. By the time they looped in producer Dan Carey (Kae Tempest, Black Midi, Wet Leg), their songs were already holistically rendered from the bottom up. Every sound had its place within the album's narrative. "When I showed my demos to Dan, he was like, 'They’re done already.'”
