The WAEVE (Graham Coxon and Rose Elinor Dougall) share new single "Drowning"
The WAEVE, aka Graham Coxon and Rose Elinor Dougall, have delivered a new cut titled "Drowning", which will appear on their self-titled debut album that's out in 2023.
The new six-minute outing "Drowning" is the second taster of the duo's self-titled debut album, following last month's lead release "Can I Call You".
""Drowning" is one of the more meandering, cinematic songs on the album," The WAEVE say. "The song touches on themes of allowing oneself to be subsumed by forces you can’t deny, whether that be romantically or life in general, of giving into the delicious risk of total failure and oblivion, despite one’s better judgment…"
"Lyrically it comes from two different perspectives, with Rose’s vocal beginning as an intimate half secret, which then expands into soaring strings," they add. "By the end we hear Graham’s refrain, acquiescing to the rising tides of intensity and acceptance of a shared fate – “Hold on to me as the waters rise. Drowning again"…"
Their self-titled debut album is produced by The WAEVE and James Ford, and was recorded in London earlier this year. Many of the 10 tracks on the record will feature Graham Coxon on saxophone.
"Drowning" is out now. The WAEVE's self-titled debut album will be released on 3 February 2023 via Transgressive Records, and is available to pre-order now.
