The Smile present "Friend Of A Friend" and announce exclusive Wall of Eyes events
The Smile – consisting of Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Tom Skinner – have shared new single, "Friend Of A Friend" and announce a series of album playback events for their forthcoming release, Wall of Eyes.
"Friend Of A Friend" has previously been debuted during the The Smile’s live shows. Accompanied by a video made by motion picture director Paul Thomas Anderson, the single features strings from the London Contemporary Orchestra as well as saxophone played by Robert Stillman.
The track follows previous releases including "Wall of Eyes – the album's title track – as well as "Bending Hectic". Wall of Eyes is the follow up to the band’s debut album, A Light For Attracting Attention, which was released last year.
The Smile has also announced dates and details for a series of album playback and film screening events around the world including New York, Seoul, Paris, Tokyo, Sydney, and Berlin, ahead of the album’s release to celebrate “the new album and the band’s collaboration with Paul Thomas Anderson", with a date at The Prince Charles Cinema, Leicester Square on 18 January.
The events include a one-time only playback of Wall Of Eyes in its entirety, accompanied by never-before-seen footage of the album’s recording sessions. A program looking back over Paul Thomas Anderson’s previous directorial collaborations with both Thom Yorke and Radiohead to include ANIMA (short film) and Radiohead’s “Daydreaming” (35mm), “Present Tense” and “The Numbers", as well as the world film premiere of “Friend Of A Friend” and a presentation of “Wall Of Eyes,” both directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and shot on 35mm film.
The exclusive Wall of Eyes events take place from 18-25 January. Tickets go on general sale from 11 January and are available to now. The Smile’s forthcoming album will be released on 26th January on XL Recordings, and is available to pre-order now.
