Woman's Hour light up Bethnal Green Working Men's Club

With typical poise and serenity Woman’s Hour came to the neatly juxtaposing Bethnal Green WMC last night, playing tracks we’ve come to know and love alongside a taster of new material.

In front of the glittery, school-disco decor of the venue, the London-based Kensal band carefully proved why they are one of those names on a lot of people’s lips. Front woman Fiona’s voice is the centre-piece; above the bare accompaniment of piano, guitar and real drums, it weaves out their melodies with gentle assertion.

New single “Darkest Place” was a highlight, as the bands artistic awareness came to the fore: symmetrical dancers – dressed in contrasting white – intimately mirrored each other’s slow movements with a stark lack of emotion.

Following their cover of Springsteen’s “Dancing In The Dark”, “Our Love Has No Rhythm” closed the short set, emphasising the serene pop this four-piece are capable of, while the smokey back lighting maintained an air of mystery around the new-comers.

It is a well thought-out live show and this short outing gave us a stunning snap-shot of what’s to come.
