Wolf Alice justify 'Ones To Watch' status at 100 Club

London’s 100 Club is more often than not associated with legendary bands of years gone by. However, last night the iconic basement was taken over by sounds of the future.
Wolf Alice, all set to see The Line of Best Fit and co. into the new year at The Social in the coming weeks, offered up a exciting variety of heady pop-rock, warm overlapping guitars, all with a neat but gentle nod 90s grunge. An attentive crowd were welcomed by the wonderfully ambient ‘Intro’, setting the scene for moments of psychedelic influence.
The somewhat melancholic opening riff of ‘Leaving You‘ is complimented by Ellie’s blissfully breathy vocal, before that infectious overdriven riff slides its way into the picture, and does its best to remain there for the evening. Howling Bells comparisons continue, with the far from ‘Fluffy’ finale; more intelligent stop-starts add a sense of excitement in their live performance, which could only be topped by genuine smiles throughout, from band and nodding audience alike.
It was an impressive showcase of the Londoner’s abilities, helping to more than justifying their ‘Ones To Watch‘ status.
